Social Movements in Context Project
On part of our preparation for exhibition and final projects was to write an Op-Ed that tide into a aspect of of social change. My Op-Ed is based on the concept of "Beautiful Work" and how we should not actually be using the concept of "Beautiful Work" in schools or the work place.

Young Words for Old Problems
Illyria Brunner Last year we were tasked with diving into social movements through history and how they have come to shape our current world with the idea that by the end of our research, we would create a final product that demonstrated what we had learned about different kinds of social change. It could be anything as long as it could be tied back to what we learned last semester, so for this project I tasked myself with creating a poetry collection about three different social movements. The first is tied to women’s rights, the second is tied to the climate crisis and the negative effect of climate change, and the last is about gun control and school shootings. I wrote these poems with the hope that it would create space for people to stop and really think about the state of the world we live in and how they are influencing it vs how they want to be influencing it and their communities. If I learned anything this year it was that social change can happen with just a spark and a loud enough voice to let it grow into a raging fire - so why not help that spark grow with one more voice. |
