LINK Reflection
For LINK I took the opportunity to explore the world of local non-profit organizations with to things in mind the first being that I didn’t want to spend LINK doing busy work that would have no benefits to the organization I work with wall not learning anything of relevance or importance in my time there but give my hours to an organization the product an beneficial outcome for them and the second is I have known for some time that the non-profit world is one I want to pursue after higher education so working in a hands on and highly personalized space would give me a better understanding of the day-to-day operation of humanitarian non-profit and allow me to better understand the world I hope to become a part of and it did.
In the non-profit world and especially local non-profit orgs everything is done by the people on the ground from maintenance and upkeep to food and funding, so when a non-profit such as 4 The Children has an extra set off and to help carry the load it takes a small amount of weight off of their plates and can be accomplished 4 times faster then it would have, which helps cultivate a more connected and relaxed environment for all individual involved.
During my time with 4 The Children a did a wide variety of tasks form taking notes on supervised visits to mounting medical room equipment, but one challenge I continually faced time and time again was well Swiss cheese/quicksand drywall some places would give way other where unusually strong and I battled with it a lot during my time there when putting up on art shelf I couldn’t the right tension and ended up redoing it 3 time before it was level, stable and ready for use, and from installing shelves in the medical room to an art shelf in the main room and plant shelves all around the office to so much more I wouldn’t have withed to spend my LINK with another organization. 4 The Children allowed me to develop my creative problem solving skill wall pushing me a little further towards the non-profit world in an amazing environment with incredible mentors.
